now a 2-month old PowerMac is already becoming obsolete.
I certainly hope you didn't buy a Power Mac two months ago, especially since Apple announced the intel switch over a year ago.
Classic was supported until what, last year essentially? And the G3 machines up until Leopard? ;)
The original G3's were only suppored through 10.2.
While I wish I could run this on my quad, it makes total sense. They're not "abandoning" anyone since this is a new app, and probably won't have a final version shipping for months. If they're expecting slow adoption of this anyway, why bother doing a version that people will be abandoning as fast as they are adopting?
While the intel only thing is a negative, I'm very happy to see any new audio apps appear that are alternatives to STP. Soundtrack Pro is a turd and has been since its release what, a year and a half ago? Apple needs to realize that shipping an app that is complete garbage is not acceptable.
I'd much rather run Sound Forge under parallels than use STP.

Hi scem0,
how do you do this to keep up with the programs if you switch every couple years from one system to the other. And isn't it confusing in your workflow or are u just a consumer user. If so then the power ain't matter my friend.

seriously just shut ur pretty faces with the tired backlit keyboard anthem.
Bit rude don't you think?
this is like the least desirable feature
In your opinion.
esp since it has a direct impact on battery life.
Not on my Pro or VAIO Z.
so simple really:
-more power
-longer battery life
-IPS display
-less weight
-runs cool
the new x220 does the mba better in three items above today for a fact. time for apple to step it up again.
Fair enough.

Really? I've been playing the beta for more than a month, and it's been phenomenal. Honestly, more than I expected. A problem can be some people aren't into RTS games, or they set their expectations too high for companies who are already raising the bar in gaming. The gameplay is amazing, the effects, the mass-army control, everything. I don't know why someone would say it's "ok." I downloaded the beta last night for Mac, and it does have performance issues compared to my Mac Pro running Windows 7 and SCII. That would be my only complain, other than that, pristine work.
So you'd recommend the PC version over the MAC??

The iMac 27" is my favorite.. none of the all-in-ones it's compared to are even the same size on that chart. Even if you build a computer with the same equipment it's more:
---------------------------------------------------------
$1100+ for the 27" IPS monitor from Dell (http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&cs=04&l=en&s=bsd&sku=224-8284&redirect=1)
$150-250 for the processor (i5 2390(I think)) according to Intel (http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=52211)
$120+ for the graphics card (desktop version, not sure about the mobile) according to Newegg (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102940&cm_re=Radeon_6770-_-14-102-940-_-Product)
Anywhere from $100 to $500+ for the tower and necessary equipment ( just depends on what tower, cooling etc. you purchase)
$100 for the Windows license according to Newegg Newegg (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116986)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
$1470 at the minimum, probably paying more or less for certain items, if you do it yourself. Probably higher cost if you buy it from a manufacturer. Either way not everything comes in a nice single package like the iMac does (which does have advantages/disadvantages). Plus the hours you get to spend putting it together if you do decide to build it yourself.

The MS products have more functionality for sure ... question is if really everyone needs everything from that functionality. For most home users and even some business users iWorks does everything they need and is therefore a cheaper option that does the trick. Many business customers (and few home users) need stuff that iWork does not offer, but MS Office does.
Bottom line: depends on your use case -> bold statements like Product A is better then B are rarely true since it usually depends on many things.
Thanks for stating the obvious but why would one NOT chose something that is 100% doc and docx compatible with all the Windows counterparts?
If you need to compose a grocery list or a flier for your next garage sale then iWurk is for you I guess but for the rest of us that actually need to collaborate with other people in the real world, no thanks.

First, it would be patented material, not copyrighted material. And patent infringement, especially design patents, is really quite easy to pursue.
Quite possibly there are no actual patents covering the design of the case (would not pass requirement for non-obviousness or inventive step, unless some exotic materials are used, for example). What they no doubt have is an industrial design right to the case, which are called design patents in the US. They might also have trademark protection on shape. And, naturally, a contract with the actual manufacturer, which might pursue the person for stealing their products, if the products are not legally the property of Apple. This would not be an option if they are produced by some third party. There may be copyrights involved, if the product is deemed to pass the "threshold of originality". Some countries have laws on good business practices, which may apply in this case.
All in all, if it seems unlikely that a 17-year old kid could legally sell this stuff and make a bundle, it is probably true.

That $130k will all go to the lawyers, even if he is able to establish that he has a legal "right" to sell those parts, and I think that'll be a challenge.

Why would Apple do what has failed all other manufactures during the time Apple's one model mantra have eaten sales from other manufactures?
I'd stop to think about what you're saying before you speak. Maybe check the stats from anytime this year.
The iPhone does not have a majority of the share in the smartphone market.
As of Q1 RIM had a commanding lead over iPhone; http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/10/06/06/apples_iphone_market_share_three_times_greater_than_android_in_us.html
Other more recent reports show'd RIM slipping, but still higher than iOS. This one also show Nokia as having an even greater lead than both.
http://www.zdnet.com/blog/btl/apple-iphone-smartphone-market-share-surges-rim-slips/34181
And the MOST recent data (as of yesterday) has Android beating iOS; http://tech.fortune.cnn.com/2010/10/05/android-passes-blackberry-and-iphone-among-recent-smartphone-purchases/
"Fail"? HA, Hardly.

I allready posted that, but everyone seems to be overlooking this fact (including you :P)
So, this time in bold:
People, one of the airlines mentoined has denied the deal, so it's not sure if it is true!
I think we might just be surpressing this..
..this is veeery un-apple. Last time I remember something like this was Steve announcing the G5 would reach 3GHz within a year, upon which IBM said they would try to get it to 3GHz within a year.
..I'm guessing someone got fired at Apples today..

Interesting story - nice read, especially with all the jokes. Here's another, you could have asked if her Apple offered a service to polish knobs... I mean, iPods. :D
Since efoto was getting his share of lumps about this I'll throw in my tale of woe regarding hitting on retail employees. Back several years ago I would go into this Walgreens (pharmacy/convenient store) fairly often. I had this one cute girl check me out (literally, ring up my order) a few times. I didn't think much of it. She seemed nice, pleasant. I never went there specifically to see her or anything, but when I was there if I did see her it was always a pleasant surprise.
One day I just decided I'd ask her out and I did the usual "I don't normally do this but you seem intriguing... yadda, yadda... would you like to go out sometime, etc". What did I hear back? "Well, I'm getting married next week." :o  :o Yeah... not so much.
That's the price you pay for not being flirty very often, I can't even remember the ground rules. Look for a ring! Man, I felt stupid the few subsequent times I went to that store and she was there. I'm sure she felt awkward as well.
C'est la vie!

But I didn't put a smiley because it wasn't really all that sarcastic. It was a pretty straighforward comment about how Macrumors posters are temperamental and sometimes hypocritical.
Including yourself?

a lot of it is luck. only reason apple is big is because the former palm CEO found a tiny hard drive and used it to build the ipod. apple got lucky with the smart electronics revolution and rode it. we still have a few years left in this cycle and i don't know what's going to come next.
everyone experimented with limited devices going back to the 1980's but it took other tech like flash memory and wifi to make them a reality. i played with Palm and PocketPC 10 years ago and while they were cool most tasks were useless because you spent as much time putting in data as the time saved. it wasn't until iOS and the apps store where you could do things like select a few recipes and make a shopping list did a PDA become useful

I've just installed Lion on a blank drive on a new Air and this is in Software Update. I'm definitely running DP2 as it says in the dialog. Is this telling me to update to something I already have or is there a DP3 I haven't heard about?
http://i.imgur.com/06l8O.png'
Dev Center shows newly posted Xcode releases but still lists DP2. Maybe it's propagating.
On a Friday. Weird, if so.

Ya! So much for a chip in your body, they will have them in your mobile device which you will always have!
This could have lots of cool uses though, and I was hoping a while ago that the iPhone would debut this technology on a large platform.
