Think about it for a second: if this were really an effort to reduce network traffic, it would be a piss-poor way of going about it. For one thing, denying the iPhone to new customers would be far less dependable than throttling data speed. For another, they're closing down only one of many distribution channels, meaning that people in NYC will still be able to get all the iPhones they want. Finally, this would be a public admission that their network is insufficient...and more fodder for the Verizon commercials. You can't tell me that that's not first in every AT&T Wireless executive's mind right now.
I don't know what's going on -- everything is just speculation based on what some low-level AT&T employees (probably new ones who couldn't get out of the holiday shift) said. And I'm not going to jump to any conclusions. I'm just saying that the Consumerist's interpretation doesn't make much sense.

Wouldn't using the "extra" electricity to power fans to decrease heat lead to less "extra" electricity???? I hope they really think this through - and I'm sure they will. Of course powering fans isn't the only use for electricity.
LOL!! Good one. They'll cool the chip which will produce less electricity which will slow the fans and produce more heat which will make more electricity to speed up fans to cool the chip which will....

There's already a thread on this. Just as I did in that one, I think it's incredibly sad. The irony in what the RATM croud are trying to achieve is particularly amusing.

I remember in New Zealand paying $4 something per liter
Here where I live at the Sheetz gas stations its $3.75.
Wait a second, per liter?
That's more than 2/L, you spoiled Dutchmen. :D
Wow, that is really insane. But only a question of a couple of years till the 2/L mark has reached Europe as well (and probably another five decades for the US).

I'd get one just for Zelda, Pilotwings and Starfox. But not at 230! That's ridiculous for a handheld machine that's primarily aimed at kids.
Gotta disagree there. Nintendo's handheld systems have always had a varied library. Have you seen the launch lineup? Metal Gear Solid, Street Fighter, 2 Resident Evil games, Madden, Ridge Racer, Asphalt. Even those Zelda and Mario titles are universal. The only obvious kids title I see is Nintendogs.

I wonder if Rosetta was handicapped during the transition period so people would still purchase the remaining exciting PowerPC products.
Funny, I really haven't noticed any bad slowdowns in any of the software I use on my Mac Pro (could be it was such a huge upgrade for me tho :).

after installing the EFI update and running software update it said no updates.
So I downloaded it directly and tried to update it. It told me I didn't need it.
Trekkie, since your machine and mine came about the same time, ours should be about the same. I checked in Profiler, and didn't need to update the SMC. Have you seen anything useful in the EFI update?

wtf? 4 years ago my brother (parents) had to pay $2000 for his "tablet PC" from HP in highschool. This works out to what, $470 a piece? Give me a break.
Just take off a zero; $479 apiece. Not ... that ... hard.
Why businesses need to often discount in the first place?
The education sector is a large reason apple still exists in the first place. A discount isn't much to ask.

Good point.
Both of which are essential.
Btw Other proposals/suggestions are also welcome, however many or few posts you have :).
Thank You.
I'm not convinced yours will do this to be honest. Your categories don't seem totally clear to me.
I don't think they can be much clearer. Hardware refers to well, Hardware, Software to um... Software. Hmm, maybe I'm looking at it from the wrong perspective though, why don't you think it's clear?

This is a stupid move by Apple. The term "podcast" inherently advertises iPod. Now everybody (such as ESPN and etc.) is going to get scared and change their daily podcasts to some other name that doesn't automatically conjure a connection to an iPod.

Instead of coming out with new applications, I would prefer that Adobe put more of an effort into developing an Intel-Mac version of PhotoShop just a bit sooner than Spring of 2007. I've been delaying buying a new Mac until the new CS3 is available. Doesn't make much sense to buy a new computer, when the application that you use the most runs better on the old one!

Except of course, the Unix backend that powers OS X also powers ATM machines, practically every cellphone, a lot of cars, and many other servers/embedded devices as well.
You're right that Windows has the major retail cash register & ATM market down. However, a lot of stores don't use Windows (pretty much any small business that uses those casio cash registers doesn't, and many chains like 99 cent stores just use those tiny keyboard-is-the-computer registers that I am 100% certain DO NOT run Windows).
On that note, I can tell you that Dish Network uses Linux on all of their receivers, but then Comcast and VZ use Windows on their receivers *ponders*

I agree that's a great idea. Apple once again on the forefront of thinking great things.
My concern comes when an inividual brings a x-rated(porn) content on their iPods and choose to see on the seat screens. That will cause a furor!

So a 17 year old can do it but a gigantic company with $50 billion lying there can't. Seems logical to me.
Wake up Steve. Seriously.
Well, if rumours about the reason for white iPhone delays are correct (i.e., leakage from the white casing affecting camera performance), then he's just selling Apple's rejects. Fair enough, I suppose, if people are willing to pay for them (especially that much $$$). It would be interesting to hear reports about camera performance after the conversion.

Alright, I didn't read it that way the first time, but went back over them and see how I should have read it that way. :o

Why do you live there? It sounds an awful lot like you are blaming someone else for the poor choices you've made.
Since the other thread was closed, i decided to reply to your ignorance in this thread. I hope you realize how ignorant you sound. Who the hell are you to judge my choices and decide i've made poor choices? Do you know my circumstances? No. Maybe i live in my parents house, maybe i don't go to a university but a community college instead. No dorms at community colleges. I live 20 minutes away from it. By your logic nobody should ever live in the suburbs. What an idiotic remark.

And a Apple branded USB Thumb drive makes no sense cost wise! DVD makes much more sense as an installation media.
I don't think Apple will be bothered by a few bucks because Apple is the cash king.
OS media on the USB stick makes sense because it is a lot faster than DVD-ROM.
