After living in Japan for three (some time ago) years several things amazed me. Japanese men treat Japanese women like second class people. The vending machines served hot food, hot drinks, cold drink and highly caffeinated beverages and these machines were on almost every block. Lastly a form of prostitution is legal in certain Provinces. Lastly almost every Japanese person I saw were absolutely in love with sea food.
It doesn't surprise me that Japanese people don't loot, etc.

She may, or may not, have exercised poor judgement. We do not know.

The Death Grip is not a myth. I can hold my phone for 20 seconds or so and lose all signal all the way from 5 bars. On top of that, I've had issues importing photos on the phone into iPhone. This is also my second iPhone 4 this month due to said issues.
I just returned my iPhone 4 and got a full refund.
If Apple says there is not an issue, then they have their heads up their a$$es.
PatF
BTW, I have always held my phones in the Death Grip fashion. My hearing is much better on my left ear, I can't listen with my right, neither can my sister who is deaf in her right ear.
I have consistently had dropped calls with the way I hold it. I am NOT going to hold it "Different" because of a design flaw. I hold it tight to my left ear (I'm a rightie) and I hold it covering the part people are saying you are not supposed to hold it. Why? Because that is most comfortable for me and the way I have always held it.
You know, this whole iPhone 4 things has been a debacle. The lost phone, the search of a person's computer and home because of it, no iPhone 4 WHITE news, the crappy rollout, the lack of phones and news. The iPhoto problem. It's just tainted any good feelings I've had for the iPhone 4.
On top of that, I HATE the boxy feel of the phone. It's hard to hold and does not fit comfortably and you never know which side is which.
I'm happy with my 3GS now and I'm glad I did not sell it!

+1 from me - for liquid metal!
i love that mock-up
ah well maybe 2011; with usb3 and an extra TB port!
OLED 3D touch screen would be nice too
Nice mockup but this wouldn't have a DVD drive or a backlit keyboard. Also, I do not like the color and the screen is glossy. Gawd!!! :)

I already knew there was going to be no iPad 3 this year. Steve Jobs even said there was going to be no iPad 3 through this statement... "2011 is the Year of the iPad 2."

Not to mention anything of the Sequoia, FJ Cruiser, 4Runner, Land Cruiser, Armada, Pathfinder, GX460, LX570, QX56. Why do the Asian companies always get a free pass on their giant offerings? They want in on that party just as much as any of the Big Three. In fact, I'd say Toyota is trying way harder than any of the big three brands, with 6 distinct SUV offerings (rav4, fj, highlander, 4runner, sequoia, land cruiser).
Domestic truck sales dwarf those of the Japanese, but you have a point. I'm not giving them a "free pass". Perhaps Toyota's increasing concentration on SUVs and the Prius has something to do with their worsening circumstances.
But the fact of the matter remains: the Japanese car manufacturers do not survive solely based on their truck sales - but the Big Three absolutely rely on strong truck sales to stay in business.

I agree that my missing FW port as someone who uses FW drives and Target Disk Mode a lot is my biggest gripe.
Well, I can't really complain about the lack of FW because I knew it didn't have it when I chose to buy it. It's the limitations they didn't make obvious that bother me, like Bootcamp.
But thanks for sharing the "Collectors Edition" title. I like that and I'll be using it from now on.

it needs to be said that GM even had small car hybrid projects planed and designed during the late 60ties (i have a german magazine outlining those smart sized cars, perhaps i can scan them tomorrow)
It's true, the hybrid concept has been around for a very long time in cars, much longer even when you consider the drivetrains used in diesel-electric locomotives and all non-nuclear military submarines.
Chevrolet managed to outsell Chrysler 10 to 1
which sounds not that bad ... except those are the actual numbers... i feel really sorry for that jeep, chrysler, dodge dealer in my hometown selling a total of _4_ cars in 2 months.. luckily now they can add lancia to that list with it's 3 cars ;)
and Porsche(24) actually outsold Honda(20)
Yikes. With those sales numbers, how do they stay in business?

Welcome to Macrumors, it is like this all the time. Some weeks are worse then others. You just get used to it!
I know it's like this but I really do believe there is no iPhone, still it is fun to spur on the stupid and ignorant, that's what I come here for ;)
I think it's more of the fact people want it so badly that they are willing believe anything to support their beliefs.
Even bigfoot, the loch ness monster and UFOs left photos, the iPhone has shown off absolutely nothing for nearly 12 months worth of rumors, therefore no iPhone.
I can see it now..... iPhoney, Tricked Different

I'm about to install it. I'm actually happy about temperature rises, makes it run longer on battery because the fans don't spin so fast. And if you want to use your Macbook (Pro) on your lap, I highly recommend SMCFanConrtol (http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/23049). It's basically a slider where you can set your fan speed up (not down) to a constant speed. 2500 rpm is just perfect for my taste to use the Macbook on my lap, and you can't really hear the fans (the hard drive covers it well). So if you have concerns about heat, use this piece of software and raise the lowest fan speed (1500 rpm on Macbooks).

Showing how Android is surging ahead is meant to show which OS is winning, but often (as is the case with this report, I believe) they are only looking at phone sales. Because iOS runs on iPads and iPods, Apple's share is higher. I wish we could get more concrete evidence on this.

Your OS isn't "winning" when it's being likened to Windows. It's no compliment. Licensed to anyone who can slam together a box with User Experience as varied as the handset models that run it doesn't make Android a winner.
It just makes it generic.

I have exactly the same ******* problem!
Damn ...
The last firmware update cured my rsd and made it run really cool - everything was perfect!!!!
NOW - it's HOT again AND i have a strange "WHINE" sound - just like you!
Grrrrrr ...
I think i read somewhere that you can't downgrade!!!!
HELP!
though I don't have a MB or MBP, this is the EXACT reason why I don't upgrade the firmware if everything is already running perfect. I feel for you guys :( Unfortunately, I don't think there is any way to downgrade a firmware upgrade, reason being, it's not software related it's actual hardware "software" your upgrading (I know that's not the terminalogy, but it's what makes sense in my mind. Basically the "programs" that control the hardware on the hardware itself). So don't bother installing a fresh copy of OS X or anything like that. Correct me if I'm wrong (last time I researched this was 5 years ago for my PC) I believe the only way you can reset your firmware is to send it back to the factory it originated at.

...for everyone complaining about the lack of a usb plug - the usb is in the headphones plug - seems to me someone will come out with some sort of headphones with a usb plug in them soon enough. anyway, I always thought the old shuffle was useless as a flash drive - it was too big to fit in a lot of usb ports - and even this new design is physically huge compared to some of the latest sticks (you can put a sony microvault tiny anywhere - ive actually stuck it in my shoe and forgotten about it) and too small in the memory department - has anyone seen how cheap 2gb drives are these days? Finally, I can't imagine it comparing in the file transfer speed department.

They have about a hundred of these test cars and trucks across the country, if I recall the business articles about them correctly.
And because their tests include competing networks, Verizon probably has one of the most accurate coverage maps for everyone.
As far as the iPhone app goes, I think it's a great idea for carriers without test vehicles and/or to see where the most desire for extra coverage is.
Edit: Here's a 2005 article (http://www.mobiletracker.net/archives/2005/04/04/verizon-wireless-hear-me-now)about a test car setup, with pictures of the car and test rigs at the bottom.
All the carriers have these mobile test vehicles with their equipment and competitors.

Hi all,
So far, the average temperature reported by smcFanControl and Fan Control Pref panel is between 47-49 degrees C. Close to what i was getting before EXCEPT.... the Fan Seems to be going off consistantly at 1595-1600rpm. I wonder if one of the changes is the thresholds?
For me, prior to the EFI update, when the Temp hit 50-51, the RPMs would slowly climb from 1500 and would drop back down relatively quickly... once the machine dropped below 50.
i've noted for the last two-three hours, that the above pattern (staying at 1600RPM) has been the case. And no I have not changed my minimum speed to 1600...
